A PVC rain gutter—also known as a PVC roof drainage channel—is a system installed beneath the eaves to collect and direct rainwater away from the roof. It typically consists of gutter channels, downspouts, and mounting brackets. Made primarily from PVC (polyvinyl chloride)—sometimes referred to as “vinyl gutters”—these systems channel runoff from the roof into downspouts, preventing water from washing directly against walls or seeping into the building’s foundation. They can also be integrated with rain barrels to collect and store rainwater.

| Chemical Resistance | Its durability under extreme heat is inferior to that of metals; long-term exposure to sunlight may cause aging and deformation, so UV resistance should be a key consideration when selecting materials. |
| Service life | About 20-year |

Under normal installation and maintenance conditions, high-quality PVC gutters are typically designed to have a service life of at least 50 years. Their weather resistance depends on whether a sufficient amount of ultraviolet (UV) stabilizer has been incorporated.
White is the most common color; although PVC is UV-resistant, it may develop a slight yellowing after years of sun exposure. Darker colors, such as gray or brown, generally offer more stable weather resistance. Opting for high-end products that feature a co-extruded protective layer can significantly delay fading.
Common specifications include 5-inch (approx. 125 mm) and 7-inch (approx. 175 mm) gutters, as well as 80×100 mm rectangular gutters.
National and industry standards typically require gutter wall thicknesses to be no less than 2.0 mm–3.0 mm. Walls that are too thin are prone to deformation under the heavy weight of accumulated snow or when a ladder is leaned against them. High-end products often feature a double-walled structure, which enhances strength while maintaining a lightweight design.
PVC-U drainage pipes produced by reputable modern manufacturers have gradually phased out lead-based stabilizers in favor of calcium-zinc (Ca/Zn) composite stabilizers, achieving a lead-free composition that meets environmental standards. While PVC material itself is recyclable, the maturity of its recycling infrastructure varies by region.
PVC is a flame-retardant material (oxygen index ≥ 32) that is self-extinguishing once removed from a flame. However, when installed in exposed locations indoors, care must be taken to prevent fire from spreading along the piping. Outdoor gutters, being far removed from sources of ignition, pose a negligible fire risk.
